The legend of Saint Columba

Saint Columba of Cornwall was a pagan princess, who became Christian after a vision of the holy spirit came to her in the form of a dove.

She fled her native country to escape an arranged marriage. Her rejected suitor’s family pursued and caught up with her at Ruthvoes (the home of Wasted Apple and Fentenfenna Farm). They beheaded her after she refused to renounce her faith and her vow.

Where her head fell a spring arose miraculously, one of several Celtic wells with a similar story. This holy well feeds our natural spring at Fentenfenna Farm.

Fentenfenna means ‘spring overflow’ in Cornish. As you can imagine, we have plenty of water here! The water is quite simply delicious, and we make use of our natural spring in many of our drinks.
